Opener Prithvi Shaw has passed his fitness test and should be joining the India A squad in New Zealand soon. Shaw had recently suffered a shoulder injury while diving to save an overthrow during Mumbai's Ranji Trophy game against Karnataka at the MCA ground in BKC here.

"He cleared the mandatory yo-yo test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Tuesday morning. He should be flying on the 16th or 17th of January to join the India A side in New Zealand," a source told TOI. Though he missed the two warm-up games, Shaw will thus feature in the first One-Dayer between India A and New Zealand A on January 22.

One of the reasons that the selectors did not pick the Test team on Sunday was that they were unsure about Shaw's fitness. In all likelihood now, Shaw will be selected in India's Test team as the third opener.

The reason for them not selecting the ODI side yet for the three games against New Zealand is the lack of clarity over the availability of all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has just recovered from a lower back injury. The selectors also wanted to watch the on-going ODI series against Australia before picking the squad for the New Zealand games.

"We have a few issues to sort out. The teams for the ODIs and Tests in New Zealand will be picked after the ODI series in India," a source said.
